About shuttlecocks
Durability and Storage
Shuttlecocks are a natural product and contain natural moisture in their feathers, so it is important to look after them properly. The moisture makes the feathers stronger and more flexible for a long life. Below we have collected some ideas and good advice on how to look after your shuttlecocks to keep them in good condition throughout the season. The best way to store shuttlecocks is at a humidity level of 85–90%.
Examples of Good Conditions:
- Humidity shelf
- Store shuttlecocks in the bathroom
- A damp basement or garage if it is not too cold
Examples of Poor Conditions:
- Low temperatures
- Direct sunlight
- Boiler rooms
- Rooms with very low humidity
- Cold car
About Durability:
If the shuttles get too dry, you can take the shuttle out of the tube, moisten the inside of the tube with a humidifier or steam the shuttles over water. All in moderation, so the shuttles don't get too wet.
Shuttle Speed
The shuttles are slower when:
- Increased diameter (the feathers are tipped outwards)
- Reduced weight
- Rotate more
- Higher stiffness of the shuttles
- Higher air pressure (lower altitude)
- Lower temperatures
Shuttles are faster when:
- Reduced diameter (the feathers are tipped inwards)
- Increased weight
- Lower air pressure (higher altitude)
- Warmer temperatures

Attention
Due to changes in air pressure, a shuttle's speed can be perfect one day and too slow or too fast the next.
